The job

What we did and why

This home in Roswell has steep vaulted ceilings over its main rooms, with a gable wall of arched windows at one end. We sprayed foam between the rafters on the underside of the roof deck, from the wall plate up to the ridge, and into the framed walls, working around the light boxes and the other openings in the roof.

A vaulted ceiling has no attic above it, so the rafter bays are the only place the insulation can go, and any gap there shows up as a hot spot in July or a cold one in January. Foam fills the bays and seals them in one step. That’s our rig parked just outside the door in the first photo.

What we installed

  • Spray foam between the rafters of the vaulted ceilings, plate to ridge
  • Spray foam in the framed walls
  • Sealed around light boxes and roof openings
