The job

What we did and why

This home in Carlsbad is built with roof trusses, and its ductwork runs through the attic. We sprayed foam into the exterior wall cavities and across the underside of the roof deck between the trusses, before the drywall went up. That turns the attic into a sealed space inside the insulated part of the house.

Carlsbad summers are long and hot, and a vented attic can get much hotter than the air outside. With the roof deck foamed, the ducts are no longer sitting in that heat, and the attic is closed off from outside air and dust.

What we installed

  • Spray foam in the exterior wall cavities
  • Spray foam on the underside of the roof deck, between the trusses
  • Sealed around window framing, wiring and light boxes
